You Have a Question? Look Here for the Answer
|
| |
1. |
Q Is there a bonus for picking my own “Mah Jongg” tile?
A Yes. Any player who picks her/his own winning tile receives a 10 point bonus.
|
| |
2. |
Q Is there a bonus score for making a jokerless hand?
A Yes. Any player who achieves a winning Mah Jongg hand that has no jokers in it, when “Mah Jongg” is called (except a singles and pairs hand) receives a bonus of 20 points, in addition to any other bonus earned. |
| |
3. |
Q Is there a penalty for giving someone else “Mah Jongg”?
A Yes. There is always a penalty for throwing someone a “Mah Jongg” tile.
A. If there is one exposure or NO exposure, the player who throws the “Mah Jongg” tile receives a minus 10 point score.
B. If there are 2 or more exposures, the player who throws the “Mah Jongg” tile receives a minus 20 point score.

4. |
Q What if the score on my “Personal Score Sheet” does not agree with the posted Official Scores?
A The posted scores are the only ones that count. The scores are automatically read from the computer scorecards and have been proven “error-proof”. They cannot be changed once the cards are submitted to the scorekeeper. To avoid discrepancies you should always:
A. Be sure you mark your official computer scorecard correctly. (Common errors include marking a score on the wrong line, marking a “0” instead of a “10”, and marking a “minus” score instead of a “plus” score.) Be sure and verify the correctness of the score marked on the opposite player’s card before initialing the card.
B. Check the addition on your personal score sheet. Most discrepancies result from poor addition or forgetting a minus sign in the event of a penalty.

5. |
Q When can I call a tile for exposure or “Maahj”?
A. You may call a discarded tile for exposure or “Maahj” until the next player has either discarded or “racked” the tile that she/he has picked from the wall. Once the subsequent player has discarded or “racked” that tile, the prior tile is considered covered and may no longer be called. No exceptions are permitted. |
| |
6. |
Q If 7I steal a tile and look at it, is there a penalty?
A. If you steal a tile during a “blind pass“ & look at it, there is a 10 point penalty (-10) at the end of that game.
|
| |
7. |
Q If I simply touch a tile, must I take that tile?
A. No. BUT, if you lift the tile, even a tiny fraction of an inch, then you must take that tile. |
| |
8. |
Q If I’ve already picked my tile, can someone else call the previously discarded tile?
A. Yes, a tile may be called for exposure or Mah Jongg until the next player has either discarded or “racked” the picked tile. |
| |
9. |
Q At the end of the Charleston, it is discovered that one or more players have the incorrect number of tiles, what happens?
A All tiles should be thrown in and the game should be re-started unless East has already discarded the 14th tile. In that case, players with the incorrect number of tiles are “dead” and survivors continue the game. |
| |
10. |
Q At the end of each game, how are scores verified for correctness.
A. Each player should verify the correctness of the score of the player sitting opposite. Initial their card over the word “Game” to certify that you have checked the card. Any player at the table may ask to see any other player’s card to verify the accuracy of the entered scores. |
| |
11. |
a) Q If I call someone “dead” in error, am I penalized?
a) A If you call someone “dead” in error, you receive minus 10 points (-10). If a player disagrees with being called “dead,” call the Director over, for a decision.
b) Q Can I call myself dead?
b) A You can NOT call yourself dead (exception: you have too many or too few tiles) |
*** When in doubt about a MAH JONGG rule or situation, call the Director.***
